Marine and Coastal Engineering
Coastal processes and shoreline erosion analysis to identify potential erosion hotspots and assess the impact of erosion on coastal structures, such as: conducting wave and current analyses, sediment transport modelling, and shoreline change mapping. This information assists with the management and protection of coastal zones, to reduce the risk of erosion and other hazards, and to maintain the ecological and economic value of coastal areas.
Pollutant dispersion modelling to assess the impact of pollutants on the marine environment and water quality, for instance: dispersion of oil spills, sediment plumes, biological infestations, and other pollutants in the water. Develop effective pollution control strategies to manage and reduce the impact of pollution on human health and the environment.
Coastal inundation and risk assessment to evaluate the potential impact of tsunamis and storm surges on coastal structures and communities. This can include modelling the propagation and inundation of tsunamis, and developing mitigation strategies.
Coastal structures design and analysis for breakwaters, seawalls, jetties, and boat ramps. Moreover, conducting wave impact modelling, and assessing the effectiveness of existing structures to minimise wave agitation in harbours and reduce hazards in commercial ports.
